The long-awaited Queen Sono is finally here and fans are here for it! On Thursday the 27th of February, the who’s who of South Africa’s entertainment industry showed up in their spiffy outfits for the show premiere.
Queen Sono is Netflix’s first African original series and was released on the streaming platform in 190 countries. The six-part crime drama web television series was created by actor and comedian Kagiso Lediga, who directed the show along with Tebogo Malope.
The series follows the story of a South African spy who tackles criminal operations on the continent while dealing with crises in her personal life, including a very complex love triangle. Cast members include Pearl Thusi who plays the lead role of Queen, Enhle Mbali, Vuyo Dabula, Abigail Kubeka, Chi Mhende, Kate Liquorish, Khathu Ramabulana, and Sechaba Morojele.
“The thing I’m really excited about is how this is going to move the industry forward, and where it’s going to take us,” says Pearl.
Producer and director, Kagiso Lediga says; “It’s all about bringing the continent of Africa together. I’d just like to see them represented as part of a bigger African continent. We’re always insular; we’re such an insular nation. I just wanted to “make South Africa part of Africa” with this show.
