On Saturday 14 September 2019, Johannesburg’s Inanda Polo Club was abuzz as guests from across the continent and abroad flocked in to be part of the prestigious Nedbank International Polo event. The annual social fixture is a globally renowned celebration that lends the perfect balance of action-packed sporting and fun fashion flair.

This year’s theme is Pattern Perfect. Shweshwe, florals, stripes, geometric, colour blocking – it doesn’t matter which pattern you prefer, dress to your best in your favourite regularly repeated design.

The Nedbank International Polo not only provides a lifestyle experience but aligns with Nedbank’s brand purpose ‘money experts who do good’ by showcasing emerging entrepreneurs during the polo.

This year, the South African Polo team faced off with New Zealand seeing South Africa end victorious to earn the much-anticipated title for 2019. The final whistle saw a score of 10-5 to the local team. This competitive rivalry dating back to 1972, marked the 7th occasion the two countries have dueled for the coveted title. The curtain raiser match had seen the South African Juniors taking on the Gauteng Greenbacks which ended with the SA Juniors winning 6 goals to 1.5.

Guests enjoyed premium hospitality and entertainment in the various areas on the day. The Best Playing Pony Prize was awarded to “Autumn” owned by Duncan Ellis and ridden by New Zealand’s Henry Jones. The Most Valuable Player was awarded to 18-year old debutant Marek Kanigowski at the celebratory prize-giving ceremony, wrapping up the momentous match before the jam-packed social festivities.
