Outstanding Film and TV Performances Honoured at the SAG Awards

The 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, honouring the best achievements in film and television performances for the year 2019, were presented on January 19, 2020 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.

Honoured with individual awards were Joaquin Phoenix, Renée Zellweger, Brad Pitt and Laura Dern for performances in motion pictures, and Sam Rockwell, Michelle Williams, Peter Dinklage, Jennifer Aniston, Tony Shalhoub and Phoebe Waller-Bridge for performances in television. The Screen Actors Guild Awards originated awards for the outstanding performances by a motion picture cast and by television drama and comedy ensembles. The Actor for a motion picture cast performance went this year to “Parasite,” while the Actors for television drama and comedy ensemble performances went this year to “The Crown” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

26th SAG Awards Ambassador Logan Browning and SAG-AFTRA Foundation President Courtney B. Vance revealed the honourees for outstanding action performances during the official live pre-show PEOPLE, Entertainment Weekly & TNT Red Carpet Live: 26th Screen Actors Guild Awards. The stunt ensemble from “Avengers: End Game” was honoured for film and the stunt ensemble from “Game of Thrones” was honoured for television.

Leonardo DiCaprio presented Robert De Niro with the 56th Life Achievement Award. The SAG Awards continued its traditions of presenting a montage saluting the work of SAG-AFTRA members and a filmed “In Memoriam” tribute honouring the union’s members lost during 2019.

ABOUT THE SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS

Lauded by critics for its style, simplicity and genuine warmth, the Screen Actors Guild Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA, which made its debut in 1995, has become one of the industry’s most prized honours. The only televised awards ceremony to exclusively honour performers, it presents thirteen awards for the outstanding performances of the year in film and television in a fast-moving two-hour show which airs live on TNT and TBS. The awards focus on both individual performances as well as on the work of the entire ensemble of a drama series and comedy series, and the cast of a motion picture. These honours are fundamental to the spirit of the Screen Actors Guild Awards because they recognize what all actors know – that acting is a collaborative art.

Hollywood gathered Sunday night to celebrate the best in television and film at the 25th annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

Taye Diggs returned as host of the event and made sure to keep the crowd laughing. Eddie Murphy received a lifetime achievement award, while Kristen Bell, who was honoured with the #SeeHer Award, moved the audience with an inspiring speech.

The Critics’ Choice Awards are known for giving a good indication of who might be awarded Oscars in February. But they may also give us a hint at what the rest of 2020’s red carpets may bring.

It was a celebrity fashion extravaganza at the Emmy Awards held on 22 September 2019 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. The red carpet, of course, was a parade which showcased glittering and glamorous gowns in different shapes and forms.

The show did not have a host for the fourth time in its history. Game of Thrones led the nominations with fourteen, including nine for acting and three for directing, followed by When They See Us with eleven and Barry with nine. Including its nominations at the Creative Arts Awards, Game of Thrones established a new record for most Emmy nominations received in the same year by any comedy or drama series with 32, while Pop TV received its first ever Primetime Emmy Award nominations with Schitt’s Creek.

Fleabag won the most major awards with four including Outstanding Comedy Series, followed by Chernobyl with three including Outstanding Limited Series. Game of Thrones broke or tied several records with its wins: it became the first series in history to win Outstanding Drama Series for an eighth season and tied the record for most wins in the category with four.
